We have put together some of the most frequently asked questions that patients have at their Perth liposuction consultation.
What is the difference between Liposuction and Vaser Pro Liposuction?
Vaser Pro Lipo is considered the gold standard of liposuction. During Vaser Pro Lipo, fat is liquefied prior to removal. The Vaser probe specifically targets and emulsifies fat, which helps to minimise the risk of injury to blood vessels and nerves. This technique results in a less invasive procedure, leading to reduced bleeding, bruising, and a lower risk of divots. Additionally, the heat generated by the Vaser probe may promote skin tightening.
Dr. Glenn Murray (AHPRA Registration MED0001196978) Registered Medical Practitioner, Specialist General Practitioner (specialist registration in general practice). has been trained in Liposuction, he has a Diploma of Liposuction, is on the Liposuction Register and was trained by some of the best plastic surgeons in the world.
Will Liposuction reduce cellulite?
No, liposuction does not reduce the appearance of cellulite. Dr. Glenn Murray (AHPRA Registration MED0001196978) Registered Medical Practitioner, offers Vaser Smooth which is a procedure that can reduce the appearance of cellulite by up to 80%. He is the only cosmetic proceduralist offering Vaser Smooth in WA.
Is Liposuction performed under general anaesthetic or sedation?
At Absolute Cosmetic, liposuction is performed under neurolept sedation. This is an important question to ask at a consultation as many clinics are not Health Department Licensed, meaning that liposuction is performed under local anaesthetic (you would be awake throughout the procedure).
How much fat can be removed during liposuction?
A common misconception is that patients can have as much fat as they desire removed during liposuction. In reality, up to approximately 5 litres of fat can be safely extracted, although this amount may vary based on the patient’s body fat percentage prior to the procedure. Dr. Glenn Murray (AHPRA Registration MED0001196978) Registered Medical Practitioner, Specialist General Practitioner (specialist registration in general practice) contributed to the development of the safety advisory guidelines.
Will I lose weight after Liposuction?
Not necessarily. Liposuction is primarily a body contouring procedure rather than a weight loss solution. While fat may not significantly affect overall weight, patients can expect a more contoured appearance following the procedure.
Does Liposuction leave scars?
Liposuction is performed with a cannula, which is a very small instrument. This means that the incisions and, therefore, the scars are small. The number of scars will depend on the number of incision points needed. These scars do fade in time, and many of our patients find that eventually, the scars cannot be seen.
Is Liposuction painful?
During the procedure, all patients receive neurolept sedation, ensuring that they do not feel anything. Once the anaesthetic wears off, it is common to experience some discomfort following the surgical procedure. This discomfort can be managed with pain relief medications. For emergencies, we provide a 24/7 after-hours contact number. Absolute Cosmetic operates as a full-time cosmetic clinic, allowing us to offer patient-focused aftercare.
Am I a good candidate for Liposuction?
The best candidate for liposuction is someone at a stable weight who is looking to reduce stubborn subcutaneous fat. In addition to this, the patient should be in good health; both physically and mentally, have realistic expectations and be properly prepared for liposuction.
Can fat be reused?
Yes, if you wish to transfer fat to another area of the body, it’s important to discuss this with Dr. Murray during your consultation. Fat can be injected into areas such as the face and hands to restore volume, as well as the buttocks or breasts. Dr. Murray has received specialized training in fat transfer techniques from Dr. Sydney Coleman, who developed this method.
Should I have my liposuction procedure overseas?
Many patients may be tempted to seek cheaper options for liposuction overseas in countries such as Turkey or Thailand. However, it’s essential to remember that, despite being elective, liposuction is a surgical procedure, and recovery should be prioritised over vacation plans. While complications can occur after any surgery, the risks may be heightened following travel.
For example, in 2017, a male patient from Victoria tragically passed away after undergoing multiple procedures abroad. The coroner determined that he died from pulmonary thromboembolism related to deep vein thrombosis, a risk that was exacerbated by air travel. Additionally, we often encounter patients who have experienced unsatisfactory results from procedures performed overseas, highlighting the potential pitfalls of seeking cheaper alternatives.
