Tabatha’s Overseas Surgery Story

31 Oct 2018

Have you ever thought about having cheaper cosmetic surgery overseas? I did, and it nearly cost me my life.

My name is Tabatha, and I wish to share my story to help others understand the risks associated with pursuing cosmetic procedures abroad.

It started Good …

I believed that having cosmetic surgery overseas was a viable option, thinking it was just as safe as having it in Australia but at a lower cost. I soon discovered that recovering from surgery was far from a holiday. The financial burden of fixing the complications outweighed any savings I thought I had achieved.

I had planned for breast augmentation and liposuction at an overseas hospital that looked inviting and promised luxury. I felt reassured by the arrangements made through Australian representatives and the appealing amenities at the facility.

The Complications

However, my experience turned tragic when I suffered serious complications during liposuction. The surgeon removed 11 litres of fat, exceeding the safety standards in Australia, where the maximum is 5 litres in a day. I ended up needing multiple blood transfusions, including some administered without my consent. Shockingly, even days after surgery, the hospital was still trying to convince me to proceed with breast augmentation.

In the midst of this ordeal, I was alone and didn’t inform my family about my decision to undergo surgery. The thought of what could have happened is distressing.

The Aftermath

The aftermath was not only detrimental to my health but also left me with significant physical changes. The liposuction resulted in disfigurement that was not addressed properly by the surgeon. My return to Australia was marked by additional medical challenges, including the discovery of blood clots.

Despite the difficulties I faced, I had the opportunity to receive proper medical care upon my return. I had to invest significantly in repairing the damage done and in restoring my self-esteem.

My experience underscores the importance of thorough research and careful consideration when it comes to cosmetic procedures, particularly those performed overseas. The risks are substantial, and the potential consequences can be life-altering.

If you are contemplating cosmetic surgery, it’s crucial to be informed about all aspects, including the qualifications and experience of the practitioners you choose. Always seek a second opinion and prioritize your safety over cost. Remember, the decisions you make can have lasting impacts on your health and well-being.
