Liposuction recovery generally progresses over several weeks, with noticeable improvements in swelling, bruising, and contour becoming more evident as time goes on. While most patients feel back to normal within a few weeks, subtle refinements and skin settling can continue for several months, with final results often seen between 6 and 12 months post-procedure.
Stage 1: Day of Surgery – Immediate Recovery
Duration: First 24–48 hours
-
Discharge Instructions: You will be discharged with compression garments in place and given detailed aftercare guidelines. These garments are essential for minimising swelling and supporting skin contraction.
-
Pain & Medication: Mild to moderate discomfort is normal. You will be prescribed pain relief and possibly antibiotics to prevent infection.
-
Mobility: While rest is important, you should take short, gentle walks to encourage circulation and prevent clotting.
After your liposuction procedure, it’s important to prioritise rest and avoid unnecessary strain on your body. Activities such as climbing stairs, bending, or lifting heavy objects should be avoided during the first 24 hours to reduce the risk of complications and allow your body to begin healing properly.
Stage 2: Day 1 Review – Initial Check-In
Focus: Monitoring early healing and ensuring all dressings and garments are secure.
-
Our nursing team will assess your surgical sites, check for any signs of fluid build-up, and confirm that your compression garments are fitted correctly.
-
You’ll receive reminders about hygiene, sleeping positions, and when to commence walking and mild movement.
Our surgical team will see you the day after your procedure to ensure you’re recovering well and managing any immediate post-operative effects. This is an ideal time to ask any questions or raise any concerns you may have. If you’re experiencing discomfort or uncertainty about any part of your recovery, our nurses are available to provide guidance, reassurance, and support during this appointment.
