What is BBL HEROic?
BBL HEROic (Broad Band Light) uses advanced pulsed light technology to target a broad spectrum of skin conditions anywhere on the face or body, including pigmentation, redness, visible veins and general skin tone and texture concerns.
BBL HEROic shares its core light-based technology with earlier BBL platforms, with the addition of intelligent control software and an automated skin-positioning system. As the handpiece is moved across the skin, the device automatically delivers light pulses, helping create a more even spread of treatment across the area, which is designed to help reduce the unevenness (“footprinting”) that can occur with pulsed light devices, particularly where pigment levels vary across the skin.

How does BBL HEROic work?
BBL HEROic delivers targeted pulses of broadband light into the skin. The light works on two levels targeting pigmentation and vein structures, while also supporting the elastin and collagen-producing cells in the skin. Automated, AI-assisted pulse delivery is designed to give a more even spread of treatment across the area, helping reduce unevenness compared with manually-triggered pulsed light devices.
What does BBL HEROic feel like?
Most people describe the sensation as a light snapping feeling, similar to a light elastic band flick. Built-in cooling technology is designed to help keep the treatment comfortable, and topical anaesthetic is generally not required.
Is there any downtime after BBL HEROic?
BBL HEROic generally involves minimal to no downtime, though this should never be relied on and reactions vary from person to person. Skin may feel warm for 30 to 60 minutes after treatment and sensitive for up to 48 hours, similar to mild sunburn. Some people may experience temporary darkening of pigmented spots, or in some cases footprinting or mild scabbing, which can take a little longer to settle. For this reason, we don’t recommend booking BBL HEROic close to a special event.
How many treatments will I need, and how often?
Most treatment plans involve two to four sessions, spaced two to four weeks apart, though this varies depending on individual skin and goals. A good general guide is to wait until your skin feels back to normal (not sensitive) before your next session, generally around two weeks. Results build progressively over a course of treatment, and it’s common for the first session to prompt a stronger visible reaction simply because there’s more pigment or damage for the treatment to target.
When can I wear makeup or resume skincare after treatment?
Skincare and makeup can usually resume within one to two days, though we generally recommend waiting a little longer. If you do resume earlier, patch test on a small area first and check for any reaction before applying more broadly.
Is BBL HEROic the same as full skin resurfacing?
No. BBL HEROic targets pigmentation, redness and skin tone at a surface level, and is not designed to replace full resurfacing treatments. For deeper resurfacing needs, ask our team about our other laser options, such as DOT CO2 Fractional or Erbium Laser Resurfacing.
Is BBL HEROic suitable for everyone?
Suitability is assessed during your consultation. Recent fake tan, active sun exposure or certain skin conditions can affect treatment, so it’s important to let your practitioner know your full skin and treatment history beforehand. As with any treatment, there are risks involved, and your practitioner will talk you through these so you can make an informed decision.
How do I maintain my results?
We recommend an annual skin review using our Observ 520x skin analysis system, so your practitioner can track how your skin is responding and plan any future treatments. Ongoing daily SPF 50 and sun avoidance also help support your results over time.
