What is a Chemical Peel?

Our Enzyme Peels are formulated to target common skin concerns, including pigmentation, sun damage, and acne. This treatment offers visible improvements in both skin tone and texture.

Infused with naturally derived active ingredients such as Lactic Acid, Salicylic Acid, and Pyruvic Acid, these chemical peels work in synergy with the skin’s natural processes to promote renewal and enhance radiance.

Developed and thoroughly evaluated by dermatologists, these peels are designed to achieve effective results without requiring downtime. Their gentle nature makes them suitable for a variety of skin types, including sensitive skin.

Treatment Information

When to expect results:

Most people begin to notice visible results within seven days, with skin appearing fresher, smoother, and more radiant. Stronger peels may continue to improve skin quality over several weeks as collagen production is stimulated.

Benefits of chemical peels:

  • Reduction in fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Improvement in skin tone and texture.
  • Fading of most brown marks and pigmentation, including:
    • Age spots and liver spots (lentigines)
    • Melasma (often linked to pregnancy or hormonal changes)
  • Overall brighter, more even complexion

Treatment areas:

  • Face: The face is the most common and effective treatment area for chemical peels. Because facial skin responds predictably to treatment, patients typically see noticeable improvements in fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, sun damage, and overall skin tone. Results are reliable, and the healing process is well understood, making chemical peels a trusted option for facial rejuvenation.
  • Hands: Can also be treated, though outcomes may be less predictable, and the skin is more prone to scarring compared to the face.

How do Chemical Peels work?

When the selected treatment is applied to your skin, it can provide visible improvements in skin tone, texture, and overall radiance.

Our Enzyme Peels stimulate the growth of new healthy skin cells, replacing tired, and sun-damaged skin.

Please be aware, as with most Dermal Treatments, there are different levels associated with a Peel, and will vary based on the individual requirements and practitioner recommendations. For those with sensitive skin or requiring a subtle skin refresh, our Absolute Glow Peel is recommended.

What are the possible complications of Chemical Peels?

Scarring can occur with stronger acids or phenol peels; however, it is highly uncommon with the gentler peels we offer. The most frequent causes of scarring stem from infection or prematurely removing flaking skin. Both of these risks are preventable, and patients are advised to exercise caution by refraining from touching or disturbing the skin during the peeling process.

Cold sores can be activated in those prone to this problem. Anti-viral medication can be taken prior to the procedure in this case.

Increased pigmentation can occur and will resolve over time. Pigmentation changes can also be largely prevented with sunscreen and minimising your sun exposure for 3 months after the peel.

What is the procedure behind a Chemical Peel?

Firstly, the skin is thoroughly cleansed. The treatment is then applied to your face for a scheduled period of time. At this stage, you may feel a tingling or it may be slightly stingy, this abates after approximately 1 minute.

Once the initial discomfort has worn off, your skin will not be painful but will feel tight. Your skin will also go red and it may be a little swollen over the next 24 hours.

Over the next few days, the skin dries out and starts to peel. Emollient should be applied several times a day to prevent cracking. Some types of peel have no downtime, while others need 5 to 10 days out of action.
