Pretty much any adult is a good fit for Clear + Brilliant, which is one of its standout features. It suits all skin types and tones, and works well at just about any age. We see a lot of patients in their late 20s to 40s who want to get ahead of things like uneven skin tone, enlarged pores, and early sun damage before they become harder to treat. It’s also popular as a maintenance option between more intensive treatments. That said, it’s not suitable for everyone. Your Clear + Brilliant session at Absolute Cosmetic takes around 30 minutes in total. We start by applying a topical numbing cream, which stays on for about 20 minutes to keep you comfortable. During the treatment, the handheld device is rolled across the skin in smooth passes. Most patients say it feels like mild warmth with a light prickling sensation. Once the laser pass is done, a cool compress or ice pack may be used to soothe the skin. There are no injections or incisions involved, and you can head home right after with no major restrictions.

Recovery is very manageable, which is a big part of why Clear + Brilliant is so well liked. Right after the treatment, your skin may feel warm and look a bit flushed, like a mild sunburn. Yes, it’s safe for all Fitzpatrick skin types, including medium and darker tones, when done by someone with proper training and experience. Both are fractional lasers but they operate at very different power levels. Fraxel is the stronger of the two. It targets deeper skin issues, things like significant scarring, deep wrinkles, and substantial sun damage. The trade-off is more downtime, often several days to over a week, with more visible redness and peeling. Clear + Brilliant is the gentler option. It’s sometimes nicknamed ‘baby Fraxel’ for that reason. You’ll get noticeably refreshed skin with minimal downtime, making it ideal for general skin maintenance and early ageing. Plenty of patients who do Fraxel use Clear + Brilliant in between to keep things looking good.

Prep is pretty simple. For at least a week before your appointment, stay out of the sun, avoid tanning beds, and stop using fake tan. Put away retinols and strong exfoliants at least seven days before. Come in with a clean, bare face on the day. If you’ve had cold sores or herpes simplex outbreaks in the past, let us know beforehand. The laser can temporarily reactivate the virus, so we may recommend a preventative antiviral. Also, hold off on scheduling if you’ve had dermal fillers or anti-wrinkle injections in the last two weeks.
