What are Cosmelan Depigmentation Peels?

The Cosmelan® method is a distinct blend of proven, active ingredients that offer immediate and long-lasting benefits. A typical chemical peel targets the skin’s surface chemically and removes the top layers to help with rejuvenation due to the high concentrations of exfoliating acids to brighten the complexion, even out skin tone, and enhance the appearance of spots and wrinkles.

In contrast, the Cosmelan® peel achieves visible results by reducing and softening spots similarly to a peel, but more importantly, it regulates and corrects pigment overproduction, preventing future occurrences. Traditional peels are known to address only the superficial aspects, whereas the Cosmelan® treatment tackles the root cause of the issue.

The complete Cosmelan® programme includes an intense in-clinic treatment, which is then supported by an at-home skincare regime.

What does the Perth Cosmelan Treatment involve?

4 weeks prior to the treatment being done it is recommended that prep is completed, simply implementing a 10% Glycolic Acid into your skin regime is all that is recommended.

  • The Cosmelan depigmentation treatment is a two-phase process designed to address various forms of hyperpigmentation.

Phase one begins with the application of a powerful depigmenting mask at an Absolute Cosmetic clinic. The mask is left on for 6-8 hours to penetrate the skin and target excess melanin.

Phase two transitions to an at-home maintenance regimen with specialised creams, applied twice daily, to enhance and prolong the results achieved in the clinic.

How long will it take to see results from Cosmelan?

In the initial weeks after treatment, many patients notice improvements in skin texture and tone. However, it is important to understand that this is just the first step.

While the surface pigmentation has faded, the underlying melanocyte cells that produce pigment are still overactive. You must continue your at-home treatment to achieve lasting results and prevent the pigmentation from returning. Skipping or neglecting this important step can interrupt the process and hinder your results.

Key Benefits of Cosmelan Peel

Significant Reduction in Pigmentation

Cosmelan Peel effectively targets multiple types of pigmentation, including melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, age spots, and freckles. By working deep within the skin, it helps break down existing pigment deposits, resulting in a visible reduction in dark patches and uneven spots. This makes it an ideal solution for both recent and long-standing pigmentation concerns.

Restores a Balanced, Even Skin Tone

By lifting excess pigmentation and reducing skin discolouration, Cosmelan Peel helps harmonise uneven tones for a smoother, more radiant complexion. Skin appears brighter and more luminous, with a natural glow that reflects light evenly.

Prevents Future Pigmentation

Cosmelan’s formula contains melanin synthesis inhibitors, which slow down the overproduction of pigment in the skin. This not only addresses current concerns but also helps protect against the formation of new dark spotsespecially important for those prone to pigmentation due to sun exposure, hormonal changes, or inflammation.

Effective for Stubborn, Treatment-Resistant Pigmentation

Many pigmentation issues, especially melasma and deep dermal pigmentation can be resistant to over-the-counter treatments or lighter treatments. Cosmelan Peel offers a medical-grade, high-performance solution that can penetrate deeper layers of the skin, giving results where other methods may have failed.

Stimulates Skin Rejuvenation & Anti-Aging

The peel doesn’t just fade pigmentation, it also encourages cell turnover and collagen production. This dual action helps improve skin elasticity, smooth fine lines, refine texture, and give skin a more youthful, refreshed appearance. Over time, skin feels firmer, looks healthier, and maintains a vibrant glow.

Recovery Time & What to Expect

The Cosmelan Peel is designed to deliver powerful results with relatively minimal downtime compared to more aggressive chemical peels. Most patients can expect around 5–7 days of visible recovery, during which the skin undergoes a natural renewal process.

Immediately After Treatment (Days 1–3):

  • Skin will likely appear red, slightly swollen, and feel warm, similar to a mild sunburn.
  • This is a normal response as the peel begins working deep within the skin to target pigmentation.
  • Some tightness may be felt as the skin prepares to shed damaged outer layers.

Peeling & Renewal Phase (Days 3–7):

  • Peeling and flaking usually begin around day three, accompanied by some dryness.
  • Shedding is a sign of accelerated cell turnover, revealing fresher, clearer skin underneath.
  • It’s important not to pick or pull at peeling skin to avoid irritation or uneven results.

Post-One Week:

  • By day 7, most redness and peeling have subsided, and patients notice brighter, more even-toned skin.
  • Residual dryness or light flaking may persist for a short time but can be easily managed with recommended post-care treatments.
  • Consistent home care is essential for achieving and maintaining your results. If you skip the home care kit you disrupt the regulation of melanocyte activity.

Cosmelan is for skin pigmentation, such as melasma, sun damage, age spots, freckles, acne-related pigmentation, and uneven skin tone. It can also improve skin texture and radiance.

Most patients experience 5–7 days of visible recovery, including redness, peeling, and dryness. The intensity varies per person, but downtime is generally minimal compared to more aggressive chemical peels.

Many patients notice visible improvement in pigmentation and overall skin brightness within 2–3 weeks. Results continue to improve over the following months with consistent home care.
