What Are Lip Fillers Fat Transfer & Nano Fat?
Treatments such as fat transfer and nano fat may be considered to support lip volume, shape, and balance. These approaches can also be discussed in the context of surrounding features (e.g., perioral area) to maintain harmony between the upper and lower lip. Some methods of lip augmentation can only be discussed during a consultation.
At Absolute Cosmetic, our in-house doctors assess and approve all dermal augmentation (fat transfer & nano-fat) treatments, as required by Australian regulations. With over 30 years of experience in Perth, our clinic is also a provider of cosmetic injectable training for nurses, ensuring we stay at the forefront of safe and effective aesthetic care.

What Concerns Can Be Addressed?
During your consultation, our team will review your lip area, overall facial balance, and goals before discussing suitable treatment options. Concerns that may be considered include:
-
Lip volume concerns – naturally slim lips or thinning may lead to reduced fullness or a less supported lip profile.
-
Shape and definition of the lip border and cupid’s bow – some individuals may seek a clearer outline or contour for balance.
-
Symmetry – differences between the left and right sides of the lips, or between the upper and lower lip, can contribute to an imbalance in appearance.
-
Fine lines around the mouth (perioral lines) – age or repetitive movement can create vertical lines around the lips, which may affect overall smoothness.
-
Overall lip harmony – treatment may be considered in the context of surrounding features (chin, jawline, or mid-face) to ensure proportional results.
Concerns may involve the lips directly, as well as nearby facial areas, to maintain natural balance and proportion. The most appropriate approach will depend on your individual anatomy, health history, and treatment goals. Some treatment options can only be discussed during a consultation.
Fat Transfer for Volume Restoration AND DERMAL FILLING
Fat transfer is a surgical option for restoring volume using a patient’s own fat. This approach can be considered for supporting facial features, improving body contours, or addressing areas affected by volume loss. Fat transfer uses your body’s own tissue, making it a natural substance for adding or restoring volume.
This procedure can often be combined with other surgical or non-surgical treatments, depending on the patient’s goals. A thorough consultation is required to determine the most appropriate approach.
Treatment Areas
Face and body (including hands, breasts, hips and body contours)
Longevity
The results of fat transfer can be long-lasting because the fat cells that successfully integrate with the surrounding tissue will remain in place.
Nano Fat
Nano fat is a highly refined form of fat transfer, where the harvested fat is processed into a very fine consistency. While it does not primarily add volume, nano fat may be used to improve skin quality and texture by supporting collagen production and soft tissue health. This can be considered for concerns such as acne scarring, fine skin creases, or subtle surface irregularities.
Other Options for Facial Volume Concerns
Non-surgical options for facial volume concerns are only discussed during a personalised consultation.
What to Expect at Your Consultation
Personalised Assessment
Your appointment begins with a consultation where your lip concerns are assessed and your goals are discussed. This ensures that any recommended treatment options are appropriate and aligned with your natural features. You will also be asked to provide a full medical history so our medical team can determine the safest approach for you.
Preparation
Prior to treatment, you may be advised on steps to support your safety and comfort. These can include general health considerations and lifestyle factors, which will be discussed in your consultation. Consent forms and aftercare information will also be reviewed with you so you are fully informed.
Treatment Experience
Depending on your individual plan, different methods may be available to address facial volume loss or other concerns. Your practitioner will explain these options during your consultation and outline what you can expect from the process.
Results
Results and recovery will vary depending on the type of treatment performed and your individual response. Your practitioner will explain the likely outcomes, how soon you may notice changes, and what to expect in the days following your procedure.
Aftercare & Support
You will be given tailored aftercare instructions specific to your treatment. Our team also provides follow-up support, and you will have access to assistance if you experience any concerns after your appointment.
To help minimise the chance of bruising, avoid alcohol, aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications, and certain supplements (like fish oil or vitamin E) for at least 24–48 hours before treatment, unless otherwise advised by your practitioner.
Some lip treatments can be medically dissolved with an enzyme if needed, while others like fat transfer cannot. It depends on the type of treatment done.
General Risks to Consider
All cosmetic procedures, whether surgical or non-surgical, carry some degree of risk. The specific risks will depend on the type of treatment you undergo, your medical history, and your individual healing response.
Not everyone is suitable for every type of treatment. This is why a personalised consultation is essential. Our experienced medical team will carefully assess your health, discuss potential risks, and outline the safety measures in place before recommending any procedure.
Possible risks may include:
- Bruising, swelling, or discomfort in the treated area
- Temporary redness, sensitivity, or unevenness in healing
- Infection or delayed wound healing
- Scarring or changes in skin texture
- Asymmetry or results that differ from expectations
- Reactions related to anaesthesia or sedation (for surgical procedures such as fat transfer)
- Rare but more serious complications, which your practitioner will discuss with you if relevant
